MdQI Awards of Excellence:

In May 1990, the State Highway Administration (SHA), in cooperation with the Maryland Highway Contractors Association (MHCA) and the Maryland Asphalt Association (MAA), initiated the Maryland with Pride Program to foster excellence in the quality of the Maryland Highway Program. Maryland with Pride Awards were presented at the annual MCHA/MAA dinner meeting.

In 1993, SHA and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approached Highway Industry leaders in Maryland about transforming the annual dinner meeting into an MdQI annual conference with the Maryland with Pride Awards being presented at the conference banquet. The first annual MdQI conference was held in 1994. Since that time, the Awards of Excellence have been presented at the annual conference banquet. In 2008, the committee changed the annual awards process to recognize projects completed within a fiscal year instead of a calendar year. In 2009, the committee added new categories including "Green" projects.

FY 2010 Projects - Awards Application Process:

Projects must be Accepted For Maintenance between October 1, 2009 and September 30, 2010, with the exception of planning projects where a Record of Decision is required in the same time frame.

The Awards Process begins by State and Local Agencies and Firms submitting nominations to MdQI Sponsoring Agencies. Download instructions and forms from the Maryland Association of Engineers web page: www.mdae.org/mdqi2011/mdqi.html

To submit a project use the form "MdQI Award of Excellence Application". Complete one form for each project/category group. Forward completed forms to the representative of the appropriate sponsoring agency by email, or you may submit a hardcopy of the form by mail, or use direct delivery. A project may be nominated in more than one category, but a separate form must be completed for each category.
The nomination form should be submitted to the Sponsoring Agency.  Nominations are due September 30, 2010.  The Sponsoring Agency will review and, if accepted, forward the nomination to the MdQI Awards Committee. The awards will be presented at the 2011 MdQI Conference following the fiscal year.
